The Last Wrath, Dev Journal #2: New boss, first playable demo

The Last Wrath, Dev Journal #2

New boss, first playable demo

Cultists, Reddit, and more.

Hey you, welcome to the 2nd devlog for The Last Wrath!

This time there is a lot to cover: A new boss, new areas, a Reddit post, a playable demo, and a bright future!

So let's get to it.

Playable demo

First thing first, I made a mini demo/prototype which just showcases all the basic systems of the game; and also a somewhat presentable trailer (mostly to test things out now, and improve, since I've never made a game trailer before).

So, here it is!

I also made a prototype Itch.io page where people can download the demo.

Play it HERE

Cultist Ambush boss fight

First up is the Cultist Ambush boss fight.

So, as of now, we have 3 bosses:

- The Dark Gatekeeper: A tutorial boss, basically a powerful tribe member. He will have deeper character development later on.

- The Paladins: The first Dark Spirits/Titans the player has to defeat.

And now, the Cultist Ambush.

Now, this is a surprise boss, the player will be walking through the Woodlands (a new area), and he'll come aross a cultist rat, who tells him to prepare for battle, since the devil has marked him for death.

And then, a bunch of other cultists (hiding behind bushes) reveal themselves, and so the fight starts!

They shoot at you with their wands, and you must kill each of them to beat the boss.

This is also the first time the "devil" is mentioned in the game, and the intention of this fight is to add suspense to what's out there hunting you, and for the player to later be like "who were those guys?".

Current World zones

These are the current zones in the game:

- The initial tribe

- The Wide open forest

- The town ruins

- The Woodlands

- The first Temple

They are all interconnected and each have a different way of accessing. Right now they are pretty rough and unpolished. Though they have some NPCs, much more content is to be expected.

Reddit post

So after doing all of that, I made a post on the subreddit r/DestroyMyGame.

The idea was to get as much feedback early on as possible, and it worked wonders.

There are now a bunch of improvements and things to polish on my to-do list, as well as a couple of mechanics that will solve some design issues, like how you get across the desert.

The art style has gotten some hints, so I'll be extensively working on that as well.

Future Update

With a demo out now and a bunch of feedback, the direction the game will be taken to is pretty clear, and the future looks bright.

Expect a new prototype by around Christmas/New Years'. It wil mostly be polishing things up, but there will be quite some more content and mechanics in there as well.
